How to get started at Dallas Dance Fitness
Frequently asked questions
Nope! You do not need to have dance experience or dance training to take class with DDF.
If you’re not a dancer when you start, you will be before long - it just takes a few classes to get comfortable with learning choreography! And if you once loved dance, drill team or cheer, we help you reconnect with the dancer in you. We love having dancers of all backgrounds in our classes and always have a mix of difficulty in our choreographed routines.
Anything breathable and comfortable for women and men. Most of our female dancers wear leggings and a tank top so that our clothing doesn’t restrict our movement. Oh and a very supportive sports bra!
Men who take Dallas Dance Fitness classes often wear athletic shorts or sweat pants and tank tops or t-shirts.
We recommend dance sneakers or cross-trainers with good lateral (side-to-side) support. Running shoes usually do not provide enough lateral stability. As for the tread, generally you will want a smoother tread to allow you to turn on our marley floors. The Zumba brand (available on Amazon) has some good options!
Once you have your DDF membership, you can sign up for your classes on the Zen Planner member app or on the “schedule” page of dallasdancefitness.com.
For studio classes, you can reserve your spot any time before the start of class. We recommend booking all of your classes on Sunday evening, however, to set you up for a successful week!
For virtual classes, please reserve by 8:00AM Central Time the morning of class. You will receive an email link by 9:00AM, and can start your class at any time. The link will be available for about three weeks.
Check in for your classes on the app to receive attendance credit.
In a typical class, we will do about 20 routines including a warm up and cool down.
Our classes are team taught, and the instructors alternate teaching every other song, typically with no breaks in the music. This keeps the energy high and gives you a variety of dance styles. Most of the routines are follow-along and are verbally and physically cued by the instructors.
Each song has its own unique choreography, and after you’ve done a routine a few times, you’ll really be able to dance it full out and add your own style! In certain classes we do stop the music once or twice to break down some more challenging choreography.
It’s super easy! Just sign up for your virtual class of choice on the Zen Planner App, or on the Schedule page of this website, by 8:00AM Central time. class. You’ll get a link to the virtual class via email. When you click the link, it will take you to a private YouTube page where you’ll see the class video. Start at any time, pause, or go back if you want to repeat a dance. The link is good for about three weeks.
